Our work in Sioux Falls reflects a range of clients, settings, and architectural styles. Each home begins with a careful understanding of the site, the client’s daily life, and the experience they want to create.

Collaborating with Sioux Falls Builders

A successful custom home depends on close collaboration between the homeowner, architect, builder, interior team, engineers, and trades.

Strom Architecture is currently working alongside respected Sioux Falls builders, including Deffenbaugh Homes and Skogen Builders. By involving the builder throughout the design process, we can evaluate decisions in real time, maintain alignment around budget and constructability, and carry the original design intent through construction.

Our role is to help everyone move in the same direction with clear drawings, thoughtful communication, and a shared understanding of what makes the home distinctive.

Have questions?

When should I involve an architect?

Ideally, an architect should be involved before major decisions have been made about the site, layout, budget, or builder. Early involvement allows the home’s design, site conditions, project goals, and budget expectations to be considered together from the beginning.
We can also help evaluate a property before purchase when architectural input would be valuable.

Why do I need an architect for a custom home in Sioux Falls?

A custom home is an opportunity to create something specifically for your site, lifestyle, and priorities—not simply adapt an existing plan. An architect considers how the home sits on the lot, how spaces relate to one another, natural light, views, proportion, materials, and the details that make the finished home feel cohesive. Our goal is to create a home that feels intentional, functions beautifully, and is uniquely yours.

Does Strom provide architecture and interior design?

Yes. Strom is a full-service architecture and design firm, offering both architectural and interior design services. When both services are part of the project, our interiors team works alongside the architectural team so that materials, millwork, lighting, fixtures, furnishings, and other interior elements feel like a natural extension of the architecture.

Can my builder and architect work together from the beginning?

Absolutely—and we encourage it. Bringing the builder into the process early creates an opportunity for ongoing communication around budget, constructability, schedule, and design decisions. During design development, we coordinate with the builder to help confirm cost alignment before moving into construction documents.

Can you help if I already have ideas or sketches?

Of course! You don’t need to come to us with everything figured out. Whether you have inspiration images, a list of priorities, preliminary sketches, or simply an idea of how you want your home to feel, we can help translate those ideas into a cohesive architectural design. Our process is collaborative, so your input becomes the starting point—not something we design around.

Can you design a home for my lot?

Yes. In fact, the site is an important part of our design process. We consider the lot’s orientation, views, access, surrounding context, zoning requirements, and other site constraints as we develop the home. Rather than placing a predetermined plan on a lot, we design the home and site to work together.
